The Volvo XC70 is a crossover SUV that was part of Volvo’s V70 executive car series. Volvo sold vehicles under the V70 lineup from 1996 to 2016. Before the 2003 V70 model year lineup, the XC70 was originally named the V70 XC. That year, it was renamed the XC70 while the sedan model was called the S60.
The 2003 Volvo XC70 was considered a second-generation V70 XC, and it came with major upgrades. Ground clearance was bumped to 8.2 inches and AWD became standard. It was built with a 2.4-liter low pressure turbo I5 engine. With this engine, max output came to 208 hp and max torque was 236 pound-feet. The seating capacity for the XC70 was five people. Gas mileage was a solid 19 mpg. Towing capacity for the SUV was also an impressive 3,300 pounds. A six-speaker sound system was standard, plus a diversity antenna. Other comforts included dual-zone front climate control, front and rear reading lights, and dual illuminating vanity mirrors.
For the 2016 Volvo XC70, the final model year, the engine improved to a 2.5-liter I5 capable of 250 hp and 266 pound-feet of torque. Towing capacity improved to 3,500 pounds, as well as gas mileage which upped to 22 mpg. Standard inclusions were leather front seats, headrests on both front and rear seats, and an eight-speaker sound system.
